New Group Fosters Stand-Up Comics in Second LifeŽ
Written by Nasus Dumart
Tuesday, 11 November 2008

When Astrin Few, the founder of Live Music Enthusiasts (LME), wanted to connect musicians with Second LifeŽ venues and fans, he simply created a group with that purpose. Established in 2005, Live Music Enthusiasts now boasts over 3,000 members with the shared goal of participating in the Live Music experience in Second LifeŽ.

Ten minutes prior to the start of a performance, musicians and venue managers simply open the LME group chat window and post the current event, reaching hundreds of members online. As a result, dozens of interested and available people flock to the venue with a click of the mouse and join the audience.

As a member of LME, I recently opened the group chat to announce the start of a performance at Molaskey's Pub. At the same time, someone announced a comic taking the stage at a venue. In response, another member asked, 'Does he sing while he is making jokes?' The tongue-in-cheek comment was directed at the focus of the LME, being for musicians, not comics.

That was not the first time I noticed LME being used for announcing live comics in Second LifeŽ. Albeit they both are live performances on a stage with a live audience in Second LifeŽ, they are two separate genres of live performance. The conversation carried on for several minutes in LME chat and later in private chat. Stand-up comedy in Second LifeŽ is just starting to emerge, but without the same kind of boost from a group as the musicians have, it will likely stay underground. There is no doubt, the comics of Second LifeŽ need their own association.

Live Comic Enthusiasts was established following that conversation. Based on the successful model of Live Music Enthusiasts, Live Comic Enthusiasts (LCE) will connect comics, venues and fans of comedy in Second LifeŽ. Second LifeŽ has a comedic nature, with outlandish avatars, scenery and situations. It makes for a richer online experience. Live Comic Enthusiasts will attempt to share that extraordinary experience.

Jackdog Snook shares the running of the Melbourne Cup Tonight!

Monday, 03 November 2008
Molaskey's Pub welcomes Jackdog Snook to our Bonfire Beach stage Monday November 3rd at 7:00 pm SLT. Jackdog is a talented acoustic guitar performer and great singer songwriter from Australia. And we have more than just Jackdog tonight because right after his set is the running of the Melbourne Cup, Australia's major annual thoroughbred horse race. Billed as "The race that stops a nation," (a holiday in the state of Victoria, Australia) it is for three-year-olds and over, and covers a distance of 3,200 metres. It is generally regarded as the most prestigious "two-mile" handicap in the world. In 1998 Jackdog wrote the song "Run For Glory" which was played at the track before the running of the race that year. Tonight he is going to play the song -- and then share the broadcast of this FAMOUS horse race with us at Molaskey's! Come early and catch Skinny Shepherd at 6:00. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Wichi/86/210/21

Pub Crawl A Success!
Written by Nasus Dumart
Monday, 27 October 2008

For the first time in their Second LifeŽ history, popular Pubs collaborated to form a virtual world Pub Crawl. Nine Pubs, including The Blarney Stone, Prop Spiners Pub, Lilly's Pub, Nessie's Pub, Coach & Horses, Crown and Pearl, Taff's, Bushy Beard and Molaskey's Pub participated in the event, which drew an estimated one hundred Pub Crawlers. Pub patrons hopped from one pub to another gathering gifts from each pub in a three hour time frame. At the end of the event, Pub owners and patrons gathered on the patio of Molaskey's Pub for a rousing 'cheers!'.

Patrons and owners claimed the Pub Crawl a success, wearing some of the goodies they picked up along the way. Prop Spinners went all-out, providing an outfit, complete with a festive particle-spewing top hat.

Thanks to all participants for a memorable day. We will plan another Pub Crawl in Winter, 2009!
